How to be worthy of life–temporal and eternal

You are worthy of life and you don’t have to do anything to be worthy. This is because our temporal life is a gift upon conception in the womb while our eternal life is a gift upon accepting Christ as Lord and Savior.

    You are worthy of life.

I am writing this in response to the question Am I worthy of life?

Furthermore, I am writing this in response to another post titled I am not worthy of life. It was posted in December 2016 on Reddit by a user named Takemylifeplz, a member of the Suicide Watch group. Based on what he wrote, he lost his job in 7/11 (probably July of 2011).

Below is an excerpt from his post.

Being fired from 7/11 is among one of the many things in 2016 that has made me feel like I am not worthy to continue with my life. There are certain checkpoints that indicate you have failed past the point of no return and that is surely one of them. I think it’s time to quit my life before it gets worse, for the sake of not embarrassing myself any further and to save other people from attempting to coach me or clean up after my mistakes.

Suicide seems like the natural course of action to take. I am not happy. I have found no direction or purpose in my life, and I am blindly grasping in what seems like endless darkness. No one has ever loved me, let alone held my hand. I have no social, intellectual, or creative value to the world at large.

Causes of not feeling worthy of life

One thing is clear: he did not feel worthy of life. This feeling of unworthiness stemmed from not being happy and finding no direction or purpose in life. Moreover, it came from feeling unloved by anyone and seeing no value in the world. As a result, he thought of committing suicide.

The above and many more are the possible reasons for suicide incidence in the world.

To this man, the most important reason was that he did not feel worthy of life.  Anyone reading may think of two possibilities: he caused the feeling of unworthiness upon himself, or others caused it upon him.

However, whatever is the cause, is he not worthy of life? Is anyone not deserving of this precious life?

I think every one of us may somehow and at some time have the same feeling of unworthiness, and so we can identify with this man. Thus, I will throw this question to you now (also to myself):

Are you not deserving of life?

The answer is a big, big NO. No matter who you are, you deserve to live because of the reasons that follow.

Six reasons you are worthy of life:

    • First, your mother conceived you and sacrificed nine months to give birth to you into this world.
    • Additionally, your parents or someone tried to raise you well.
    • Furthermore, God, the most worthy One, spoke His word to create this world for you to live in.
    • Moreover, God, the most worthy One, created and breathed life into the first man and woman; you became a recipient of that breath of life.
    • Not only that, this most worthy One purposed you to live.
    • Last but not least is that Christ, the only worthy lamb, died for you that you may have life, not only a temporal life but also an eternal life.

Maybe you belong to those who might say your mother almost aborted you or your parents abandoned you, and nobody raised you.

If that is the case, I understand your situation and feel sorry for your pain. On the other hand, I do not want to stop there because the other three reasons are facts that I believe do not have any opposites.

Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you, and before you were born, I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations. Jeremiah 1:5

Not everyone is called to be a prophet to the nations, but one thing this verse says is that before you were formed, God knew you, and before you were born, God consecrated you, or set you aside for His purposes.

Thus, choose life because God has made you worthy of it. Secondly, choose what God has created you for: to live this life for Him. Lastly, choose what Christ has died on the cross for–your new life on earth and eternal life in heaven.

How not to feel unworthy of life

Remember not the former things, nor consider the things of old. Isaiah 43:18 ESV

It means LEAVE BEHIND YOUR PAST.

Come to me, all who labor and are heavily laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28 ESV

It means GO TO GOD FOR REST.

He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147:3 ESV

    This means RECEIVE HEALING.

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me because the Lord has anointed me to bring good news to the poor; he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; …  Isaiah 61:1 ESV

It means RECEIVE THE FREEDOM HE GIVES.

And it shall come to pass that everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Acts 2:21 ESV

This means CALL UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD FOR SALVATION.

But, as it is written, “What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him…” 1 Corinthians 2:9 ESV

This means LOVE AND TRUST GOD.

Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will, they existed and were created. Revelation 4:11 ESV

Worthy is the Lamb who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing! Revelation 5:12 ESV

    They mean GOD IS WORTHY.

    In conclusion, these verses mean

To end, this is my prayer:

Lord, I pray that the people reading this now will know that it is no accident that they can read this. It is for them to understand that they are worthy of life–this breath of life You gave. Whatever they are experiencing, let those experiences and situations be out of focus and no longer stay in sight. Let them know that although there may be situations that try to put them down, You are always there to lift them and take them to the place You have wanted them to be—having a life of love and victory on earth and an eternal life in heaven. In Jesus’ name, amen.
